Zombie Piranha Kickstarter Preparations

Final preparations are underway to launch the Zombie Piranha kickstarter. The game by Appy Times Software Ltd and Putty CAD is nearly completed but we need to secure funding for the final push so we can spend time updating the graphics, building more levels, getting the game onto as many systems as possible, and marketing. The game will be initially published on Android and then on ios, windows 8 and other systems depending on level of funding reached. We will be starting our goals for android and offering other systems as stretch goals to allow us to test each system thoroughly before release.

Rewards will start at just ONE British Pound which will get your name as a supporter on a digital poster featuring all the game characters which will be free to download. Rewards also include the game itself, beta access, in-game credits and even a chance to have your face on one of the in-game characters!

All will be revealed at launch but please help us to spread the word about our upcoming game and follow us on social media. Remember to tell your chums too!

Please bookmark the sites below to keep up with things!

Zombie Piranha Updates

Working on zombie Piranha updates, the game is playable and the power ups are in, now the hard work begins, level designs and a huge graphics overhaul! Our most ambitious mobile game yet. The characters have three layers of damage and the game has different modes such as "Fin-durance" (endless swimming with amazing powerups and retro arcade style gameplay) or you can "Chews a level" to collect star-fish on various difficult set leveles. Also watch out for the "Bone-us" round! :D Chumming soon to mobiles and other platforms! :D www.appytimes.co.uk www.puttycad.co.uk

Jack the Nipper

Over the weekend I revisited Jack The Nipper, a game I was really fond of growing up.

In 2003 I made a demo level of the first screen as a tribute to Gremlin Graphic's original.

10 years later here is a new updated version of the same screen...

Zool fan art and Monty Mole artwork from the Games Britannia Game Jams

Don't think I posted these images before, but I was invited to help out at the Games Britannia 2013 Game Jam. Following the success of the 2012 one where I helped out with some Monty Mole games for the schools taking part in the competition. Being an avid fan and sometimes retro-remaker of the beloved Gremlin Graphics games I grew up playing in the 80s, I jumped at the chance to share my passion for the games with others and lent my skills as a graphic artist to help out the kids with their games.

A vectorised version of the old Gremlin Logo.

Monty Mole returns to help Monty Mole Jr in the apocalypse!

Monty Mole Jr sets off on his adventures.

For 2013 the theme was switched to another of Gremlins heroes... Zool. I worked on box art this time, the kids were even more enthusiastic this time and they had created some amazing artwork, so my part of the jam was mainly doing layout work for them which was great fun and gave them a lot of pride to see their work on the boxes.

Before the Jam I created a quick vector version of the Zool artwork from the original box for fun (like you do!) :D I didn't use this but thought I'd share it on my blog anyway...

The original box artwork.

My vector version Fan Art.

I was a huge fan of Gremlin Games and look forward to seeing what else they resurrect in the future and hopefully we will see new titles appear from their brilliant archive of games with character. I would especially love to see the return of Jack The Nipper! (Maybe next time?..)

Monday - a twoodle by Ric

What's a Twoodle I hear you ask? It's a Twitter doodle! This is the first one, but probably not the last.

I overheard a twitter conversation by top game-devs Simon @Barog Barratt and Byron @Xiotex Atkinson-Jones which made me chuckle so much I decided to turn it into a cartoon strip, thankfully they both enjoyed it and didn't throw me to the twolves! So without further ado, here it is...

Twitter suspended! DON'T PANIC!

It appears I may have accidentally followed/unfollowed too many users at once on twitter.

I'm not currently sure exactly why the account was suspended. but having read the rules, I realise that I recently tried to unfollow old inactive accounts on my @cartoonsbyRic twitter account. Unfortunately this type of activity can sometimes be flagged as spambot activity.

I have politely asked for the account to be reinstated via the support channels and I guess all I can do now is await a reply.

My @PuttyCAD and @DinkiDinosaur accounts don't seem to have been affected and hopefully things will be back up and running on @cartoonsbyRic A.S.A.P.

DON'T PANIC!

Kickstarter 100% funded! 4 days left

On the 1st January I decided to start doodling a picture story by adding a single panel every day on twitter. It's now almost May and I've got around 120 panels drawn and am putting them together in little comics. I took the idea to kickstarter and have raised money to get the first couple of comics printed (4 days left if anybody wants to check it out before it ends). http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/puttycad/dinki

I was considering getting the comics printed anyway to take to comic fairs etc. but using crowd funding takes out some of the financial risk involved.

The fact that I'm only adding one panel a day means I never get bored with the project and don't give myself any excuses not to do it. I have no idea what each day will bring and there are no rules so I can introduce new characters and other elements whenever I feel like it, I didn't want the cartoons to have too much filler panels and concentrate on the action. It's a bit like Tom and Jerry but with dinosaurs and scary beasties (and monkeys, don't forget the monkeys!).

When the 12 planned comics are finished (1 per month of 2013) I'll probably concentrate on individual Dinki story books and other spin off projects, animation, games, toys.

I don't know if this will inspire anyone to try their own comic kickstarters or daily doodle stories, but it's a lot of fun if you do!

App Icons for your mobile games and apps.

I'm currently working on some App icons and have decided to run a special promotion to other game devs big or small.

For just £40 GBP I will do a cartoon app icon based on your game or app. If you would like to take me up on the offer please email information about the app including images if possible to info@puttycad.co.uk

To keep costs down and make the process as simple and quick as possible please pay using this site via paypal. Priority will be given on a first ordered first served basis.

Step 1 - I will take the information you provide and sketch up a few ideas for you to look at. You can then choose the one you like best and/or request any changes.

Step 2 - The chosen sketch will be worked up based on your requests to give a clearer idea of the final image and sent to you for approval.

Step 3 - A full colour image will be created at 512x512 pixels, this will then be output as icons at all the required sizes for Android and iOS applications. This will be zipped up and emailed to you.

If you have any queries please contact me on the email address above.

Many thanks

Ric

RIC A DOODLE DOO

I’m Doo Doo Doodling something funny for money for Red Nose Day 2013  to raise cash and change lives both here in the UK and in Africa.

To make it more fun I joined the celebrity Sarah Millican's team via Twitter, in an attempt, along with others, to raise a million pounds towards the total!

Every time my total reaches a multiple of £10 I am drawing a "doo doo" doodle cartoon and posting it to my page!   Lets DOO DOO this! #twittermillion #twittermillican

I've already raised £100 and here are a few of the Doo Doo Doodles:

Taking Back B.O.B. - game available on iTunes

This is an older game I provided graphics for. It's a simple retro game crossed between Frogger and Lunar Lander with high-res graphics. As you play the game the story unfolds. Please check it out on the iTunes App store. Taking Back B.O.B.

A number of B.O.B.'s (Bioluminescent Organic Buddies) were kidnapped by the evil Dr. Snerv. His plan is to mash them into an energy pool so that he can build his Super-Duper-Planet-Blaster. Fortunately, you found a way into the lab and got the B.O.B.s out. Now you just have to get them back home!

Dinki - Needs your support!

On the 1st January I decided to make a comic book, but not an ordinary comic book. In the past I've started comic books and got distracted with work and projects for other people, which makes it hard to dedicate time to sit down and draw my own comics. So what I'm doing is adding a single panel to the story every single day of 2013 around midnight. To make it more fun I only draw what pops in my head each night based on what happened in the previous panel. When each month is complete I plan on releasing them as physical comics that people can buy.
You can follow the story as it evolves on twitter: https://twitter.com/DinkiDinosaur
Also the panels are posted at Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DinkiDinosaur
Please help to spread the word about this project if you enjoy the cartoons!
The first comic should be going to print in about a months time.
